Broken Bathroom Vent Fan Causes Mold in Highlands, NJ

Recently, a three-man crew from Mold Solutions by Cowleys was sent to a home in Highlands, NJ to deal with a bathroom mold problem. Here, the ventilation fan in the main bathroom broke, and it was not timely fixed. After months of the family taking showers with no bath fan to remove the moisture, mold had started to form. The homeowners finally got around to installing a new fan but the damage was done — there was extensive mold growth in the bathroom. The problem with mold is that once mold it takes hold, it lives for only one purpose: to keep recolonizing by spreading its airborne spores to re-attach elsewhere.

We were able to immediately resolve this bathroom mold problem. In less than a day, we applied a powerful antimicrobial called MAPS 1 that attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly. We then scrubbed away the mold and applied MAPS 2, which is our patented sealant that encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders the mold non-allergenic and harmless. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and reactivates whenever it gets wet to prevent the return of mold.

When we were finished, the bathroom was safe for the family to use. We were glad that we could quickly and thoroughly treat the mold for these homeowners and make their bathroom safe once again without anyone having to worry about getting sick from mold growth.

Bathtub Leak Causes Mold in Basement in Monmouth Beach, NJ

With this particular mold assignment, these homeowners in Monmouth Beach, NJ had a tub leak on the first floor of the home. Water then dripped down all the way to the basement, which caused mold on the joists in the basement. The homeowners had fixed the plumbing leak and contacted Mold Solutions by Cowleys to remove the mold.

We treated the mold affected areas with our EPA-registered anti-microbial called MAPS 1. This product attacks mold at its DNA and kills it instantly. Afterward, we applied MAPS 2, which is a patented sealant that encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders it useless and non-allergenic. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and reactivates whenever it gets wet to prevent the return of mold.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that mold has been present in the basement for quite some time, the joists were stained. Fortunately, these stains are purely aesthetic and pose no health risk. Once MAPS 1 & 2 have been applied, the mold is no longer a threat.

Mold Found On Paneling Throughout Basement in Brick, NJ

A Brick, NJ, homeowners were cleaning out their basement and removing some unwanted furniture. When moving a piece of furniture away from the wall, they found some mold growth on the paneling. The homeowners immediately realized they had a problem and contacted us to have the mold treated.

Mold will attach to any surface containing organic material, including most building materials made with wood or natural fibers. Mold often forms in basements and crawl spaces because of high humidity levels and since these areas of the home are either nonliving spaces or not utilized that often, mold can go undetected for quite some time. Unfortunately, mold spores from down below will travel on air currents throughout the home and is often responsible for unexplained “allergies” of the home’s occupants.

We treated the mold-contaminated paneling with an EPA-registered antimicrobial called MAPS 1, which attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly. Next, we applied MAPS 2, which is our patented sealant that encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders the mold non-allergenic and harmless. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and reactivates whenever it gets wet to prevent the return of mold.

Lastly, we installed a commercial-grade  SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. These dehumidifiers are specifically designed to work in the challenging environment of basements and crawl spaces and operate 24/7, turning on and off automatically using a built-in hygrometer. There is no water pan to empty or overflow. Instead, these worry-free machines are installed to drain into a sump pump or other drainage system. These dehumidifiers keep down indoor humidity and moisture to levels where mold will not form.
