Not Enough Ventilation
When we inspected the attic, it was quite easy to spot the mold growth as it was all over the rafters. What caused the mold growth? Insufficient ventilation in the attic.
Common Place for Mold
An attic is one of the most common places for mold to develop, but it is also one of the most likely places for mold growth to go unnoticed. The homeowner told us he hired a contractor to install vents in his attic to increase ventilation, so all we had to do was remove the mold.
MAPS 1
We applied an EPA registered antimicrobial called Mold Abatement Polymer Solutions 1 (or MAPS 1 for short). This antimicrobial targets mold at its DNA and kills it immediately.
MAPS 2
Next, we scrubbed the mold away and applied a MAPS 2, which is a patented sealant that'll encapsulate the surface the mold is growing on and renders the mold inert, harmless, and non-allergenic. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive, which means that'll it reactive whenever it gets wet to prevent any future mold growth.
