Insulation Being Held up by Chicken Hire
When we began inspecting the crawl space, we noticed that the insulation was being held up by chicken wire. Chicken wire is commonly used on commercial buildings when they wrap the exterior. It makes for a better support so the insulation doesn't sag and keeps pests from knocking the bats down.
Contaminated
As we inspected, we discovered that all the insulation was contaminated with mold.
Remove the Contaminated Insulation
First, we had to remove all the chicken wire and then remove all of the contaminated insulation. Next, we treated the entire crawl space with MAPS 1, which is an EPA registered antimicrobial solution that targets mold at its DNA level and kills it instantly.
Mold Abatement Polymer Solution
We wiped away all the mold and then applied a patented sealant called MAPS 2. This encapsulates the mold, rendering it harmless, and will reactivate whenever it gets wet to prevent future mold growth.
Vapor Liner
Finally, we placed a vapor liner down. A vapor liner is a 6 mL plastic sheeting that prevents any water vapors in the dirt from coming up into the house. This thin sheeting in the crawl space helps create a divide between water and your home and keeps all the moisture in the soil instead of in the crawl space.
