Quite the Moldy Crawl Space
I equipped my personal protective equipment and began inspecting the crawl space. Almost immediately, I found mold all over the foam on the walls and on the insulation.
First Things First
First, I removed and properly disposed of the moldy insulation and the foam walls.
Onto MAPS 1
Then I treated the joists and subfloor with an antimicrobial solution called MAPS 1, which targets mold on a cellular level and kills it immediately.
Now for MAPS 2
After I wiped away all the mold, I applied a patented sealant called MAPS 2. This encapsulates the mold, rendering it harmless, and will reactivate when it gets moist to prevent future mold growth.
Purely Aesthetic
While it appears that there is still mold, these stains are purely aesthetic and pose no health risk. Once MAPS 1 & 2 have been applied, the mold is no longer a threat.
Replace the Insulation
Next, I installed new comfort thermal insulation.
Last Piece
Then, I finished it off by installing a 6ml vapor liner on the floor of the crawl space to prevent moisture accumulation.
