Moldy Damaged Beams
After equipping our personal protective equipment, we began inspecting and immediately found an abundance of mold in the crawl space. The reason for the mold? There was an excessive amount of moisture buildup due to the dirt floor crawl space.
Problems With Dirt Floor Crawl Space
A dirt floor crawl space releases and absorbs moisture with changes in humidity levels, which can cause mold and wood rot.
Step One: Install a Vapor Barrier
To fix this, we installed a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is a 20-mil polyethylene liner that will block the evaporation of ground moisture into the crawl space air.
Time for MAPS 1
After installing the vapor barrier, we treated the crawl space with MAPS 1. MAPS 1 is an EPA registered antimicrobial solution that kills mold at a cellular level.
Then MAPS 2
Once dried, with apply a patented sealant called MAPS 2. MAPS 2 encapsulates the mold, rendering it harmless. MAPS 2 will also reactivate when it gets moist to prevent the growth of any future mold colonies.
