Normally, we don't remove sheetrock unless it is water-damaged and has lost its structural integrity. However, in this particular case, the sheetrock was water-damaged and non-salvageable. After a discussion with the homeowner, we determined that the best course of action was to cut out the sheetrock and find out what was going on behind the wall. Sure enough, we exposed a leaky pipe. The homeowner had the leak fixed immediately.
