Extreme Bathroom Mold Removal in Cliffwood, NJ
Challenge
We were dispatched to a Cliffwood, NJ residence to resolve a severe mold problem. A lot of our work comes from referrals, and in this case, a Cliffwood Township home inspector who knew our work and our results told the homeowners about us. They were especially interested in our treatment process because they were hoping to treat the surface mold and staining without removing the drywall and dealing with an expensive renovation project. Unlike traditional mold remediators that remove the building materials containing mold growth, we focus on treating the mold directly. As long as the building materials are structurally sound (no severe water damage), our process avoids the time and expense of building tear-outs.
Once on-site, we were directed to the master bathroom. There was heavy black mold growth throughout the entire bathroom. As we inspected, we discovered that there was sustained moisture build-up in the bathroom over a period of months after the ceiling fan stopped working. With no working bathroom fan to vent out the the steam, the moisture condensed in the form of droplets everywhere — on all four walls, the floor, and ceiling. Once there is a water or moisture problem, all you need for mold to grow is some organic food source, even processed wood-based building material like drywall. Mold can even grow on non-porous surfaces like tile or concrete because of dust and other residues that contain organic material.
Solution
We equipped our Personal Protective Gear and treated every square inch of the area with our EPA-registered antimicrobial solution called Mold Abatement Polymer Solution 1, or MAPS 1. This product attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly. We then used our mold stain remover, scrubbed away all the excess mold staining, and then applied our patented sealant MAPS 2. This application encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders it harmless and non-allergenic. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and will reactivate whenever it gets wet to prevent future mold growth.
Needless to say, the homeowners were ecstatic. They were so worried that this was going to be an impossible problem to fix, and to them, we were miracle workers. We usually get a sincere thank you, but this time we were overwhelmed. The homeowners gave us an outpouring of affection with hugs and handshakes, telling us that they would spread the word and recommend us to their friends and neighbors. For us, a referral because of a job well done is the ultimate compliment!
