Bathroom Mold in Perth Amboy
Challenge
We were sent out to a residence in Perth Amboy, NJ to treat a serious mold problem that had taken hold in a bathroom. Mold is a fungus, and like any living organism, requires air, a food source, the right temperature, and water or moisture. Water and moisture is the one element of mold growth that a homeowner can control. In fact, if there is a mold problem, it indicates that there is a water or moisture problem that’s causing it. In regards to this home, excess moisture developed in a bathroom.
Many of our everyday activities use water and release steam (moisture) into the air. Think about the water we use and the steam that is released when we cook, wash clothes, and bathe, it’s no surprise that often mold often grows and thrives in kitchens, washer/dryer areas, and bathrooms. One of the most important ways of reducing condensation in our living spaces is through proper ventilation. A well-ventilated home is essential for removing moisture, especially in our bathrooms and kitchens where large quantities of steam permeate the air from hot water. This homeowner learned the importance of having a vent fan in the bathroom to expel moisture before mold has a chance to take hold. Once mold starts, it only knows one thing: to keep recolonizing through spreading its spores.
Solution
For the long-term, the homeowner fixed the venting problem by properly installing a vent van that vented to the outside. We resolved the immediate problem by treating the mold with our EPA-registered antimicrobial solution called Mold Abatement Polymer Solution 1, or MAPS 1. This product attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly.
We then used our mold stain remover, scrubbed away all the excess mold staining, and then applied our patented sealant MAPS 2. This application encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders it harmless and non-allergenic. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and will reactivate whenever it gets wet to prevent future mold growth.
