A Pest Inspection Led to the Discovery of Mold in Toms River, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out to a home in Toms River, NJ for a WDI inspection as a preventative measure, however, upon entering the crawl space, we immediately smelled mold. We looked around and could see the floor joists were covered with a white substance which turned out to be mold. They also didn’t have a vapor barrier on the floor. The moisture from the floor was causing condensation and causing the mold issue.
We let the customer know they had mold, and that the crawl space could really benefit from crawl space encapsulation, a dehumidifier, and a mold treatment!
Solution
First, we treated every square inch of the crawl space with our EPA-registered antimicrobial solution called Mold Abatement Polymer Solution 1, or MAPS 1. This product attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly. We then used our mold stain remover, scrubbed away all the excess mold staining throughout the joists, and then applied our patented sealant MAPS 2. This application encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders it harmless and non-allergenic. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and will reactivate whenever it gets wet to prevent future mold growth.
Once we finished with the mold treatment, we then installed a 20 mil vapor barrier and closed off all the outside air from coming into the crawl space by sealing the vents. We then insulated the walls and the floor to keep their home warmer and help save energy costs. We then installed a professional-grade dehumidifier to control the relative humidity.
