Water Flows into Basement and Causes Mold in Edison, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Edison, NJ recently suffered a major water leak in his basement. The worst part is, he was away for two weeks and he had no idea it had happened! Once he returned, he had to remove all the items out of the basement and dry the area. Once everything was dry, that's when he noticed the mold growth, so he called us and we were sent out to treat.
Solution
Typically, we are able to treat the mold in its place and avoid unnecessary tear outs, however, when the area is saturated and severely damaged, like in this case, we had to tear out the moldy sheetrock. We informed the homeowner, who agreed it was necessary, and informed us we will replace the sheetrock after we treat the area.
After we removed all the contaminated sheetrock, we treated the affected areas with our EPA registered antimicrobial called MAPS 1. This application attacks mold on a cellular level and kills it instantly.
We then scrubbed away the mold and applied MAPS 2, which is our patented sealant that encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders the mold non-allergenic and harmless. MAPS 2 is also moisture-sensitive and reactivates whenever it gets wet to prevent the return of mold. Now that MAPS 1 & 2 have been applied, mold is no longer a threat.
