Roof leak Causes Mold in Long Branch, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Long Branch, NJ, had a roof leak that had gone unnoticed for quite a while. They had the roof repaired by a qualified roofer, however, as often happens with roof leaks, mold had started to grow in a closet. They contacted Mold Solutions by Cowleys to deal with the mold issue.
Solution
First, we treated the attic with an antimicrobial application called MAPS 1, which stands for Mold Abatement Polymer Solutions. MAPS 1 is an EPA registered product that attacks mold on a cellular level and immediately kills it. Next, we used our mold stain remover and scrubbed away all the mold growth throughout the crawl space. Lastly, we applied our patented sealant called MAPS 2. MAPS 2 is a moisture-sensitive application that encapsulates the surface mold is growing on and renders it harmless, inert, and non-allergenic.
One of the best features of MAPS 2 is that it will reactivate whenever it gets wet to prevent future mold growth. Mold stains are a by-product of the mold enzymes consuming organic materials. Mold stains, while aesthetically unappealing, are not allergenic or otherwise harmful as are the mold and circulating mold spores. Also, while some mold stains can be removed, others are too deep in the building materials to be superficially scrubbed away. In those cases where mold stains are visible in a living area of the home, the homeowner either needs to replace the materials or paint over the stains.
With our mold treatment process and patented products, this homeowner was able to avoid the time and expense of tearing out and removing perfectly good building materials (not to mention the expense of the renovation project that follows) associated with traditional mold remediation.
