Mold Growth in the Basement
There was extensive visible mold growth on wood paneling throughout the basement. Mold can come in all colors and shapes, and all mold is potentially a health hazard. Homeowners should be concerned about any mold growth, not just black mold.
Hygrometer
These are the readings we took on a portable hygrometer - an instrument that measures temperature and indoor humidity levels. This basement had conditions that were ripe for mold to thrive at 66 degrees and a swampy 72% indoor humidity level. Indoor humidity levels should be kept between 30% and 50% to prevent mold growth.
Treating the Mold with MAPS
We equipped our personal protective equipment and then treated the mold with an antimicrobial application called MAPS 1. MAPS 1 is an EPA registered product that attacks mold on a cellular level and immediately kills it.
Wiping Away the Stains
Next, we used our mold stain remover and scrubbed away all the mold growth throughout the area.
Dehumidifier
We installed a commercial-grade SaniDry XP dehumidifier. These powerful maintenance-free dehumidifiers are specifically designed to work in basements and crawl spaces. They operate automatically, turning on and off according to a built-in hygrometer. Also, they drain directly into the sump pump, so they never have to be emptied
Sump Pump Installation
Sump pump will remove any standing water that may find its way into the basement. This will keep humidity down, and prevent mold from returning.
